Managing Dry Skin through Hydration

Dry skin can be treated by topically applying moisturizers that are formulated to hydrate the skin.

Moisturizing dry skin can:

  1. restore and retain water content in the outermost layer of the skin
  2. lubricate and soften scaly taut skin
  3. soothe inflammation
  4. alter the environmental conditions that rob the skin of moisture

By increasing the hydration state of the stratum corneum (skin’s outer layer), the symptoms of dry skin can be alleviated. Moisturizing lotions and creams are formulated to increase hydration of the skin.

The most commonly used moisturisers are lotions and creams, which are oil-in-water emulsions, and hand creams, which are water-in-oil-emulsions. Lotions and creams add moisture to the skin, soften dry scales and soothe inflammation. Lotions and creams are more effective if they are applied after showering or bathing, while the skin is still plump with the water it has absorbed.

Hi Fatin, thank you for your enquiry and support. You can consider our DailyAdvance Ultra Hydrating Lotion as an alternative but we would recommend that you seek consultation from your dermatologist first to better understand your skin’s condition.
